Keeping Up
Intro
This page is likely to always be a working in progress, but I thought it would be helpful to document the process and tools used to attempt to keep up with all of the changing cases, legislation and rulemaking activities happening in the animal law space. (and these most often could be adapted to other areas of the law)
Legislation
I currently have a license for Legiscan, but I am actively looking into some of the 'newer' tools in the space. Ultimately, most of this info ends up published publicly, so many of the tools are charging a subscription for their scraping of the data and user-interface overlays... if I had more time I would just go after the data directly.
OpenStates is a great example of how this data should be democratized... it is now supported by Plural – I like the way the Plural app looks, but have already discovered a couple bugs in the user interface that don't make it as 'usable' as Legiscan, even though it has a much more intuitive L&F.
Rulemaking
Michigan-specific
This is the EGLE Rulemaking Process, as an example.
The Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules (MOAHR) oversees all state agency rulemaking activity and publishes the Michigan Register, here. The best I can tell, so far, this is the best place to track proposed rule changes. The Register is published every couple weeks.
